Thor
Okay, so I FINALLY, finally got around to watching Thor for the first time. I don’t see very many movies, okay?!?! I watched it with my dad tonight, basically on a whim.
(1) As chance would have it, I had spent most of the day reading about astronomy/astrophysics, etc. (including wormholes, hahaha). And was particularly moved by a piece on scientific CURIOSITY. So when the cosmic/wormhole storm blew up at the beginning and Jane’s first instinct was to drive into it, I like YELLED AT THE SCREEN, “YES!!!1 THAT’S HOW IT GETS DONE!!! SCIENCE!!!!” And then beamed eyehearts at Jane forever and ever. Jane, ILU. No joke, this may have actually… been my favorite moment in the entire movie. (And I feel really proud of my girls I taught last year who are continuing on in science.)
(2) This movie was even more gorgeous than I expected.
(3) Okay, fine, fine. My verdict on Loki/Sif? CANNOT UNSEE. (
Also, HOT. They should secretly make out behind the throne and in the rainbow chamber thingy and in the bathroom of that Earth diner and in their bedrooms and wait this is getting out of control.). (It’s not really a secret, though, is it? Frigg totally knows. *Smirk* Yeah, Frigg, I saw that pat on the arm and that look you gave her.)(4) I am going to be sad for like at least two days. :( :( I rarely get… like… depressed/in a weird mood from stories, but Loki did it for me. I’m gonna be in a weird, sad mood now for a little while.
WHY DIDN’T YOU GUYS WARN ME ABOUT THIS?Oh wait, you did.(5) Speaking of things you warned me about, y’all said Odin was the worst dad ever, but… DANG, I DIDN’T KNOW HE WAS BASICALLY THE MAIN VILLAIN?

Young Justice “Alpha Male” thoughts
- Chris Traeger as Captain Marvel? EVERYTHING SUDDENLY MAKES SENSE. I could not help but laugh at everything he said.
- You go YJ! Teach those kids about being “patronizing” and showing mutual respect in relationships. :D And of course Conner’s apology at the end melted my heart.
- JUNGLES JUNGLES JUNGLES
- Am I the only one who was distracted by hearing a Screaming Piha (a bird from the Central & South American jungles) sing in the India scenes? The answer is “yes.”
- Kaldur’s leadership arc — can I just say how blown away I am by the show including a character arc with that kind of precision and grace?
- Loved the M’gann + Artemis scenes.
- Wally was actually pretty likable in this episode for a change.
- The Brain’s design was awesome. I thought he was much creepier than he was in Teen Titans.
- JUNGLES JUNGLES JUNGLES ANIMALS ANIMALS ANIMALS
- lol Supes adopting the Wolf. I kinda wished it was the tiger, but D’AWWW.
- OVERALL: such natural and amazing character & relationship development, UGH. -
Please note that their mouths are totally and 100% percent OPEN. Also that M’gann just immediately gets into the kiss. Lotta tension between them that they got to work out.

Overall MOST FAVORITE shows in the last ~10 years
So, the new TV year is upon us.
And I was thinking about how season 1 of Community was my overall favorite show that TV year (with shows like Parks & Recreation, The Vampire Diaries, and Doctor Who as outstanding runners up). And I was also thinking about how Parks & Rec was by far the clear winner THIS year (and Leverage was really the only thing anywhere close).
And that inspired me to compile a list of my “#1 favorite show” for about the past 10 years:
2000 - 2001 - X-men: Evolution
2001 - 2002 - X-men: Evolution
2002 - 2003 - X-men: Evolution
2003 - 2004 - Firefly
2004 - 2005 - Avatar: The Last Airbender
2005 - 2006 - Avatar: The Last Airbender
2006 - 2007 - Avatar: The Last Airbender
2007 - 2008 - Avatar: The Last Airbender
2008 - 2009 - Spectacular Spider-Man
2009 - 2010 - Community
2010 - 2011 - Parks & RecreationPredicted winner of my heart for the 2011 - 2012 season: Parks & Recreation

Supercut of the Day: In honor of Darth Vader’s now-iconic interjection from the newly revised Return of the Jedi, Screened has compiled a supercut of 19 other big and small screen characters expressing their emphatic disapproval.

Pet peeve time: for the contingent out there who sneer at heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman and Captain America, those icons who still, at their core, represent selfless sacrifice for the greater good, and who justify their contempt by saying, oh, it’s so unrealistic, no one would ever be so noble… grow up. Seriously. Cynicism is not maturity, do not mistake the one for the other. If you truly cannot accept a story where someone does the right thing because it’s the right thing to do, that says far more about who you are than these characters.

Look, I like gritty. I write gritty. There is a time and a place for gritty. I’ll take my Batman gritty, thank you, and I will acknowledge that such a portrayal means that my 11 year old has to wait before he sees The Dark Knight. But if Hollywood turns out a Superman movie that I can’t take him to? They’ve done something wrong. Superman is many, many things. Gritty he is not, something that Richard Donner certainly understood.

#OR: WHY I HAVEN’T ENJOY A SINGLE DC FILM IN YEARS
#I DON’T THINK ANYONE AT DC HAS SEEN ANY OF THE MARVEL FILMS OR EVEN KNOWS THAT THEY EXIST AND ARE BLOCKBUSTER SUCCESSES WITH CRITICAL AND FINANCIAL ACCLAIM BECAUSE W T F
#LIKE I AM PRETTY SURE THE REASON WHY THOR KILLED AT THE BOX OFFICE AND GREEN LANTERN BOMBED
See also: reasons why I don’t like Batman except for the Abed version, the campy shark repellent version, and the YJ version (he’s all right).

She really likes talking about the weather, for some reason. Hmmm.
(Oh, and that’s Kitty in the background, and through the clever use of cheats she can walk through walls.)

Diss!
P.S. I still don’t understand why people like Batman. Bitter about Batman & Wolverine and their popularity 4 life.
