You guys, I’m still reeling from yesterday’s episode of Young Justice.
Specifically, the scene in which Connor says that he had known since the mind meld, before they got together.
I legit teared up.
It touched some things at the very core of my heart (those of you who know me personally probably have an idea what I’m talking about).
Gonna be real here — I think there’s definitely a part of me that wants that for myself.
Yeah, that entire scene felt rushed, and yeah, NGL, I’m a little worried about what they’re going to do with Rocket… but I keep remembering that scene with M’gann and smiling.

And ugggggh, IDK, I just love so much how close M’gann and Conner are to each other? Like, there’s the initial awkwardness when Conner does push her away because she’s his first crush and he doesn’t know how to deal with it and oh, great, she’s a telepath, too, so what if she accidentally overhears him sighing wistfully in his own brain over her—but an episode later, they’ve already moved past that and started becoming friends, and then they’re best friends, and now they’re best friends and they’re dating, and it’s just such a huge delight to have this romantic narrative about two people who genuinely like each other. I love that they work together. I love that Conner, who was initially (and justifiably) so averse to telepathy, initiates telepathic contact with her—that he makes sarcastic comments just to her. I love that M’gann is in many ways the more experienced of the two, but that neither of them is “dominant,” but rather their relationship is based on a mutual give and take and their first big fight is M’gann reasserting her own capabilities and independence both outside and within the context of their relationship. I love that Conner is basically the big, dopey, chill bro of the team (LOL) and that, left to his own devices, he’ll just hang around M’gann until the team needs him to punch things. I love that M’gann is the actual powerhouse of the team and that she sometimes thinks Conner’s sarcastic jokes are terrible. I love that they’re a team and I love how they influence each other—how M’gann calms Conner and Conner gives M’gann the confidence to be more assertive.
I LOVE… THEIR FACES………….

Normally I steer away from picspams highlighting a woman’s vulnerability and a dude’s subsequent outrage on her behalf, as often the source material is problematic in such a way that I don’t feel comfortable condoning, even tacitly, the message conveyed. But one of the many ways in which Young Justice has excelled—and one of the reasons why I love M’gann and Conner’s relationship so, so much—is that M’gann and Conner are explicitly and repeatedly established as equals. They respect each other; they listen to each other; they care for and support and protect each other. And notably, for all the fandom’s complaints, M’gann is the one who has rescued him more often than not.
But! Anyway— It isn’t terribly healthy, I think, but I do love how Conner has centered so much of his life around M’gann and it makes sense that he has done so, too—he lives with her, she’s the singlemost consistent and consistently supportive presence in his life, and he loves her—and maybe the reason I love it so much is that it does make sense, that the fastest way to piss off Conner (who has, now that he’s had time to settle and adjust, proven to be fairly laconic) is to upset M’gann. Not even threaten her! Just make her upset. And he knows now, because she took him to task for it (ahhhhhhhasjkd I love this pairing, you guys), that M’gann can take care of herself, but damn, y’all, he still doesn’t like seeing her cry and if he can, and if you do make her cry, he will beat the absolute shit out of you—because he loves her but also because she loves him, and Conner has so few people who care for him.
LOL MY SUPERBOY FEELINGS. :(
Can I just eyeheart this meta forever and ever?

Young Justice “Alpha Male” thoughts
- Chris Traeger as Captain Marvel? EVERYTHING SUDDENLY MAKES SENSE. I could not help but laugh at everything he said.
- You go YJ! Teach those kids about being “patronizing” and showing mutual respect in relationships. :D And of course Conner’s apology at the end melted my heart.
- JUNGLES JUNGLES JUNGLES
- Am I the only one who was distracted by hearing a Screaming Piha (a bird from the Central & South American jungles) sing in the India scenes? The answer is “yes.”
- Kaldur’s leadership arc — can I just say how blown away I am by the show including a character arc with that kind of precision and grace?
- Loved the M’gann + Artemis scenes.
- Wally was actually pretty likable in this episode for a change.
- The Brain’s design was awesome. I thought he was much creepier than he was in Teen Titans.
- JUNGLES JUNGLES JUNGLES ANIMALS ANIMALS ANIMALS
- lol Supes adopting the Wolf. I kinda wished it was the tiger, but D’AWWW.
- OVERALL: such natural and amazing character & relationship development, UGH. -
Please note that their mouths are totally and 100% percent OPEN. Also that M’gann just immediately gets into the kiss. Lotta tension between them that they got to work out.

Sorry, but there is no triangle and there never was. Not in any of the characters (or creators) minds. Kid Flash is oblivious to Miss Martian’s interest in Superboy. He doesn’t know it, but he was never in the running. Miss Martian is not quite sure what to make of Kid Flash’s hitting on her, but she never had any interest in him beyond the platonic. She likes Wally but was ATTRACTED to Superboy (and vice versa) from moment one. I think that’s what happens sometimes. Sometimes two people just lock on. I’m not saying it’s “Love at First Sight”. But it’s teen-crush at first sight. And it’s moved forward from there. (Deeper feelings may come later.) People have accused us online of following a trope of good girl falling for bad boy, but they’re missing that moment in “Fireworks” when they both immediately click. At that moment, M’gann had no idea Superboy was a bad boy. He was - to her, anyway - just, well, hot. Her ideal. As for Supey, Miss M. was pretty much the first girl (as opposed to woman) he had ever seen, and he locked on her as well, though he had no idea what to do with those feelings… and at times acted badly in part because of them (and because of his density). I mean you don’t want a girl reading your mind, when what’s on your mind is her, and you’re not sure if she reciprocates. Every time he behaves badly, he struggles to make it right. And she seems quite empathetic toward his background and baggage, so she gives him a chance.

Caught the latest episode of Young Justice.
AND THEN THEY KISSED. But not really because they were interrupted. dammit.
SUPERBOY, HOW DO I DRAW YOUR FACE.
SMOOCH-BLOCKED BY A SENTIENT EXTRATERRESTIAL BALL. If that’s not the definition of tragedy, then I failed theatre class.

As you can see, the evolution of the wild Kon-El’s smile — a particular smile reserved solely for a prospective mate — and the significance of such is immediately apparent.
Consider the first exhibit: after the M’gann (a cheerful and genial creature whose exuberant yet patient nature has proved uniquely successful at drawing the Kon-El out of its shell) has made a preliminary overture of friendship, the Kon-El responds with a shy smile signaling acceptance of this overture and possible future interest.
A mere few days later, the Kon-El responds, without prompting, to an expression of doubt from the M’gann with a profound show of affection and support. (Refer to the second still attached.) Shortly after this display, the Kon-El accepts, without protest, the assistance of the M’gann in standing. Again, he smiles at her with easy, open affection. (Refer to the third still attached.)
Of note is that the Kon-El is normally reticent; it is only in the company of the M’gann that he opens emotionally, and it is only to the M’gann that he shows such smiles. Accordingly, it seems safe to presume the Kon-El, though ignorant of mating customs, is not only open to the M’gann’s romantic overtures but himself interested in the M’gann.
However, further data — smiles, lingering glances, the touching of hands, arms, lips, and other noteworthy physical contact — is required and will be examined as needed to refine this preliminary study’s suggested conclusion.
