Young Justice “Alpha Male” thoughts
- Chris Traeger as Captain Marvel? EVERYTHING SUDDENLY MAKES SENSE. I could not help but laugh at everything he said.
- You go YJ! Teach those kids about being “patronizing” and showing mutual respect in relationships. :D And of course Conner’s apology at the end melted my heart.
- JUNGLES JUNGLES JUNGLES
- Am I the only one who was distracted by hearing a Screaming Piha (a bird from the Central & South American jungles) sing in the India scenes? The answer is “yes.”
- Kaldur’s leadership arc — can I just say how blown away I am by the show including a character arc with that kind of precision and grace?
- Loved the M’gann + Artemis scenes.
- Wally was actually pretty likable in this episode for a change.
- The Brain’s design was awesome. I thought he was much creepier than he was in Teen Titans.
- JUNGLES JUNGLES JUNGLES ANIMALS ANIMALS ANIMALS
- lol Supes adopting the Wolf. I kinda wished it was the tiger, but D’AWWW.
- OVERALL: such natural and amazing character & relationship development, UGH. -
Sorry, but there is no triangle and there never was. Not in any of the characters (or creators) minds. Kid Flash is oblivious to Miss Martian’s interest in Superboy. He doesn’t know it, but he was never in the running. Miss Martian is not quite sure what to make of Kid Flash’s hitting on her, but she never had any interest in him beyond the platonic. She likes Wally but was ATTRACTED to Superboy (and vice versa) from moment one. I think that’s what happens sometimes. Sometimes two people just lock on. I’m not saying it’s “Love at First Sight”. But it’s teen-crush at first sight. And it’s moved forward from there. (Deeper feelings may come later.) People have accused us online of following a trope of good girl falling for bad boy, but they’re missing that moment in “Fireworks” when they both immediately click. At that moment, M’gann had no idea Superboy was a bad boy. He was - to her, anyway - just, well, hot. Her ideal. As for Supey, Miss M. was pretty much the first girl (as opposed to woman) he had ever seen, and he locked on her as well, though he had no idea what to do with those feelings… and at times acted badly in part because of them (and because of his density). I mean you don’t want a girl reading your mind, when what’s on your mind is her, and you’re not sure if she reciprocates. Every time he behaves badly, he struggles to make it right. And she seems quite empathetic toward his background and baggage, so she gives him a chance.

Wally and Artemis
There are no doubts about it. Those two ARE a couple. I’m in a weird sort of way upset about that. I wanted Artemis with Kaldur. It’s cool though romance is romance. But I can’t help but feel sorry for poor Kaldur, who lost the love of his life to his best friend.
While it’s obvious that the show is heavily foreshadowing the idea of Wally/Artemis* man whatever!
Until I am explicitly proven wrong, I will cling to my fantasy that the actual purpose of the Wally/Artemis storyline is so that they can become FRIENDS and he can grow the fuck up through having a (specifically female — since Robin, to a certain extent, already does this) friend who never lets him get away with being obnoxious. And while all this is going down she and Kaldur steadily get closer! Not least because she can perceive vulnerability in him that the others do not and it makes her a bit protective in a way that surprises her because her father tried desperately to train her towards callousness and life, in general, has taught her that you never let your walls down, but somehow she cannot quite keep it up with him, his soothing presence makes her feel like she doesn’t have to fight every single second of her life if she doesn’t want to, and meanwhile she’s the only one of the team that he never feels like he has to babysit or keep in line or guide overmuch because she’s 15 but she’s world-weary and is so independent and self-possessed, and it allows him to relax and be young in a way that he doesn’t often even admit that he needs to. AND THEN THEY MAKE OUT.
Yeah.
I DO WHAT I WANT.
But, no, seriously, I really did think that the bits of her taking care of him last episode stood out starkly not least because the only time we’ve ever seen her be that affectionate/soft with someone was in the scene with her mother.
HAND ON CHEST, SOOTHING FOREHEAD STROKING.
I ain’t mad at it.
*And let’s take a moment to look at how gross the framing of that foreshadowing has thusfar been given that it focuses solely on what Artemis can do to improve Wally — he needs ~a little spitfire~ to keep him in line? really? are you fucking kidding me? I WANT TO THROW UP ALL OVER YOUR HEAD, SIR — and has never once presented ANY REASON AT ALL for Artemis to have romantic feelings for him NOR any possible illumination of or benefit to her character that could result from such a relationship and, indeed, hasn’t even presented him as someone that she at all likes as a person, much less as a romantic prospect. Which, in turn, renders a potential romantic relationship between them at this juncture an enterprise ENTIRELY about HIS feelings with absolutely no regard for her feelings, desire, or agency, as she is relegated to nothing but a tool through which he can experience growth. And sure that can change, and I really hope it does, but for reals, right now, no thanks.
#i just genuinely see lots of ways in which they could be good together and for each other
#and that’s not even getting into both of their respective EVIL DADDY ISSUES
LOLOL I know rite?
My best hope that your scenario could happen is that Spectacular Spider-Man had temporary ships in its narrative. But I wish it wasn’t Dr. FATE that foreshadowed the Wally/Artemis.
